How Do People Buy Music?

'In 2013 UK album sales fell by 11.2% in 2012, according to the British Phonographic Industry.  Figures showed CD album sales declined nearly 20% to 69.4m copies, although digital album sales rose by 14.8% to 30.5m.' From BBC news

This shows the obvious decline of CD sales in the new digital age and the rise of digital sales.

Many people find it easier to buy an album from iTunes than go out and physically buy an album from a store.  This is why many stores like HMV have found it difficult to cope and survive in the new digital age, shops like Zavvi have closed down all their high-street shops and now focus all their sales on the internet.  Many of the music labels and film industries wanted the rescue of HMV to be a success as they felt this was their major high-street presence.  HMV was bought by Hilco in 2013 and has now started to again become a popular store, they decided to focus more upon the CD and film sales rather than technology.

Online presence from the likes of iTunes, Spotify and Amazon have claimed much of the market share and now others find it difficult to compete with such low prices and convenience.
